How to Make 3D Cartoon Characters in Adobe Illustrator

Hello everybody!! Today we are going to show you “How to Make 3D Cartoon Characters in Adobe Illustrator”.
Adobe Illustrator is one of the best applications for making graphics artwork like logos and Web pages etc. One hot trend nowadays is 3D effects. So, in this tutorial, we give you an idea of what Adobe Illustrator offers and how to use its 3D features.

Step 01
  • Open the Adobe Illustrator software.
  • Go to the “File” menu and click on “New”.
  • Select the size of the document.
  • Now go to the “Tool Bar” and select “Ellipse Tool”.
  • Holding “Shift Key” on the document and drag out.
  • Select “Gradient” from “Gradient Panel”.
  • Now go to the “Tool Bar” and select “Star Tool”.
  • Click once on the document to open “Star Window”.
  • Put the values in the window as shown in the screenshot.
  • Add the gradient to the star shape which we created earlier.

Step 02
  • Go to the “Tool Bar” and select “Direct Select Tool”.
  • Round the points on the star.
  • Press and click on the star, little circle icons will show.
  • Click on the icon and drag down to round the points of the star.
  • Now go to the “Edit” menu and click on “Copy” (you can also use Ctrl+C ).
  • Again go to the “Edit” menu and click on “Paste in Front” (or Ctrl+F).
  • Now use selection tool click and drag while holding “Shift+Alt” key to the center.

Step 03
  • Select both the stars.
  • Now go to the “Object” menu.
  • Inside the object menu go to the “Blend” menu and click on “Blend Option”.
  • A “Blend option ”window will be opened.
  • Select “Specified Shape” and points “100” then click on “OK”.
  • Again go to the “Object” Menu then the “Blend” menu and click on the “Make” option.
  • Now open the “Effect” menu.
  • Go to the “Distort & Transform” menu and click on the “Pucker & Bloat” option.
  • Select the value is “-17%” then click on “Ok”.
  • Again go to the “Effect” menu then go to the “Distort & Transform” menu and click on the “Roughen” option.
  • A window will be opened to select the setting as shown in the screenshot.

Step 04
  • Now select the shape and “Right Click” and then click on the “Isolate Selected Group” option.
  • Click right in the middle and drag it up by holding the “Shift Key”.
  • Select the “Gradient Circle” which is located on the side of the documents.
  • Hold “Alt” key and “Drag” it a copy of the same gradient will be created.
  • Now change the gradient of the duplicate circle.
  • Place the duplicate gradient circle on the body (as shown).

Step 05
  • Select the “Ellipse Tool” from the “Tool Bar”.
  • Select the light gray gradient.
  • Now draw an “Eye” shape with the help of “Ellipse Tool”.
  • Select the “Gradient Tool” and adjust the gradient.
  • Press “Ctrl+C” then press “Ctrl+F”.
  • Hold the “Shift” key and drag down to the center.
  • Change the color of the duplicate eye shape circle
  • Again make a duplicate of the same circle and place it inside the 2nd duplicate circle.
  • Also, change the 3rd duplicate circle to black color.
  • Adjust all the three circle and give it an eye shape.
  • Select all circle and right click on it then click on the “Group” option.
  • Again right click go to the “Transform” menu then click on “Reflect” option.
  • A window will be opened so select “Vertical” and click on “Copy” option.
  • Now click and drag and place near to the first eye.
  • Select both the eyes and grouped it.

Step 06
  • Again select the “Ellipse Tool”.
  • Draw a shape which looks like “Nose”.
  • Fill it with orange color.
  • Now select the “Mesh Tool” and just one click in the nose shape.
  • Now select yellow color and the nose is ready.
  • Place eyes and nose as shown.
  • Now draw a circle and select black and white gradient.
  • Click the upper part and drag it down and place it under the cartoon.
  • Make a duplicate of the same cartoon and change the color of the body.
  • Now take a “Rectangle Tool” and make the selection of the whole document.
  • Fill the rectangle with color it’s up to you.
  • Here is the funny cartoon character is ready.
